Many excellent techniques for breast reconstruction exist today…using your own living body tissue or muscle…to create a breast(s) that looks beautifully natural…

Breast Reconstruction Before and After Photos

Among the several advanced and refined techniques that exist today for breast reconstruction – Dr. Davison performs a technique called Gracilis Flap.  Microsurgical flaps represent today’s state-of-the-art in tissue-based breast reconstruction that preserves muscle function.  If muscle is used it serves only as a vehicle for the blood vessels that run within it. The gracilis is a superficial (workhorse) muscle that has been used for decades as a primary choice for flaps.  The Gracilis Flap technique employs excess skin and fat from the inner thigh to reconstruct breasts with a natural appearance.  When an upper inn thigh flap is harvested as perforator flap without muscle, it is referred to as a Transverse Upper Thigh (TUT) Flap.  Sometimes an inner thigh flap requires a small amount of gracilis muscle be incorporated into the flap to assure an adequate blood supply to the flap.  These flaps are called TUG Flaps – Transverse Gracilis Flaps.  Either flap can be harvested so that the donor site scar is placed discretely on the inside of the upper thigh. This is a highly desirable donor agent – hidden on the inside of the thigh.  Unlike the rectus abdominus muscle that is missed – the gracilis muscle is a small muscle that is not missed. If this technique is your best choice – Dr. Davison will tailor it to your specific needs to achieve natural looking results.

BENEFITS OF GRACILIS FLAP BREAST RECONSTRUCTION:

  • GRACILIS Flap is one of today’s primary flap reconstruction techniques
  • GRACILIS Flap uses living excess skin & fatty tissue from the inner thigh
  • GRACILIS Flap reconstruction can be done right after mastectomy surgery
  • GRACILIS Flap technique hides scars discretely on the inner – upper thigh
  • GRACILIS Flap technique requires meticulous skill for natural looking results
  • GRACILIS Flap reconstruction results in a beautiful – natural looking breast that is soft & natural feeling…

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?

GRACILIS Flap breast reconstruction is an excellent choice for many patients, but it is not suitable for every patient. Several factors are considered, and Dr. Davison will be able to determine this during your personal consultation. You should also be in otherwise good health and have realistic expectations. Gracilis Flap breast reconstruction is a good choice for the small to moderate sized breast (B cup) – in a patient who has not had and children yet and who has a fuller-inner thigh.

During your consultation -Dr. Davison listens carefully - as this time is critical to developing a clear understanding of your concerns & building a relationship with you.

GRACILIS FLAP PROCEDURE:

  • After you are anesthetized Dr. Davison will meticulously harvest skin and fatty tissue and a small amount of gracilis muscle from the inner thigh.
  • This is transferred to the chest – the blood vessels are connected.
  • A breast mound is sculpted.
  • A new nipple can be created typically 90 days after this surgery.
  • Microsurgical technologies are used to perform flap procedures.
